At the time of original publication, Faisal Devji was Associate Professor of History at the New School in New York. He had held faculty positions at Yale University and the University of Chicago, where he received his PhD in Intellectual History, and had served as a Junior Fellow at Harvard's Society of Fellows and Head of Graduate Studies at the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London.
